Calico Founded in March 1881
Today Calico is a County park. This old mining town.
Produced 86 million dollars in silver
And 45 million dollars in Borax. Before becoming a ghost
town in 1909.

In 1951 Mr. Walter Knott Restored Calico.
In 1966 Mr. Knott Donated Calico to the county of San Bernardino.
Calico  in 1881 had a population of 40 by 1887 it had grown to 1200.
It had 22 saloons a China town and a red light district.
On 18 may 1882 the post office was opened. The 1st postmaster was
Will L.G. Soules. Then replaced by Everett E. Stacy on 20 Oct. 1885
Followed by Henry R. Gregory on 19 Sept. 1889.
On 11 Apr. 1890 Margaret J. Oliver became the 4th postmaster of Calico.
On 22 May 1894 Henry R. Gregory the 3rd postmaster Became the 5th
postmaster of Calico. On 30 Nov. 1898 the post office was closed. And The post
office at near by Dagagett.  took over as the post office serving Calico
Mr. Stacy is the postmaster that used a dog. By the name of Dorsey a Black and
white German shepherd. That deliver the mail to the Bismark mine about a mile
and half. North of the town itself. Mr Stacy was unable to make the trip himself.
(We have an old photo of Calico 1890 the trail was behind the school house and
we can see it was a steep climb). Today there is no trace of the trail.
The old School house. This is a  replica of the original. The original was 3 times
the size of this one. This building was build on the same site as the original in
1955.
